Marriott Jeju Shinhwa World Hotel and Resort (Seogwipo, SOUTH KOREA)

After a run of 3-star hotels, everyone is just ecstatic about staying at a 5-star hotel from a well-known international chain tonight. It's particularly important considering it's our final night here in Jeju Island.

After the horrible check-in experience (conversation was all in Mandarin) two nights ago, I was thrilled to see a team here that speaks fluent English. That's something that was missing throughout the trip.

Marriott is one of the four resort hotels found inside the massive resort area of Jeju Shinhwa World. Others are Landing, Somerset and Shinhwa. Not surprisingly, I picked Marriott due to my familiarity with the hotel group.

My little nugget couldn't wait to check out his room.

We went with a family room equipped with a double and single bed. I always love a hotel room with lots of ceiling-to-floor windows. You can't go wrong with a room flooded with natural lights.

The hotel was opened in 2017 so it's still in very good shape (yes, I can't stand old hotels especially those with poor maintenance).

The color tone of white and beige, combined with the wooden furniture to evoke a sense of comfort and warmth.

The bathroom was pretty spacious. There was enough room to fit in a bath tub.

A separate shower room. I could definitely use a chair there after all those walking in the past 3 days.

Our room didn't have any view at all. Not that it mattered or anything. It's facing the centre of Jeju Shinhawa World.

First up, we decided to check out the swimming pool before sunset.

It's not the biggest pool in the world but it more than served the purpose. And it's just a 3-minute walk from our hotel (down to the recreation area).

There's also a heated indoor pool for the kids.

The lobby lounge provides a welcoming sight with an elegant and tastefully decorated area in the heart of the hotel lobby. Too bad I didn't have time to enjoy a cup of coffee here.

In the UG level was the casino and a passage that led to the Food Avenue and Asian Food Street.

Food Avenue is Jeju Shinhwa World's upscale food court comprising of famous eateries such as o'slo ice-cream bar and Gorae Seafood Ramen. My personal favorite here is Johnny Rockets, the famed burger chain from US. It's a very nice food court but I think it should open much later than its closing time of 8pm.

Across from Food Avenue is Asian Food Street, a collection of food trucks focused on Asian delicacies (think Chinese meat buns, Korean fried chicken, Japanese tempura etc.). Good thing they are open until midnight.

Of course, the crown jewels of Jeju Shinhwa World are its theme park and water park. They are located on the far end of the resort (near an area called YB Republique). It's about an 8-minute walk from the hotel and it's mostly under cover.

This trip to Jeju really gave me a lot of surprises (mostly pleasant ones). From the pretty exciting cafe scene to the host of tourist attractions and resort hotels. I think it's worth coming back some time in the future.
