Baeknyeon Gaya Milmyeon 백년가야밀면 (Seogwipo, SOUTH KOREA) ★★☆☆☆

We all settled in The Island Blue Hotel a little too comfortably that no one really wanted to go too far for dinner tonight. I personally didn't want to drive neither so the plan was to explore the area near the hotel. Centro, a contemporary Italian restaurant was my No.1 choice coming in but with just 3 tables in the venue, we knew there's a good chance it was going to be full. And as it turned out, it was.

So, we turned our attention across the street to Baeknyeon Gaya Milmyeon (백년가야밀면, literally means "100 Years"), a place known for its Gogi Guksu, Jeju's own style of pork noodle soup.

Again only 6 items on the menu (like the previous restaurants we visited in Jeju Island) but to make matters worse, all the warm noodle soup were sold out (or so they said). I don't know how you could sell out your warm noodle soup when you're still offering the cold ones. Perhaps, the stove was broken?

No one raised their hand when I asked who wanted cold noodle soup tonight. I guess everyone was sick of noodles by now. Starting things off was Suyuk (literally means "water meat) or Korean-style boiled pork slices (13,000 won). These were again served with different kinds of lettuce.

But unlike the pork belly wraps we came to enjoy a few nights ago, these were pretty dry and bland.

Mandu (5,000 won) - Korean-style steamed pork dumplings.

We didn't order any noodles and instead opted for 2 orders of Mandu. Everyone was overjoyed when these arrived. The size of the dumplings were huge! Looks like we won't have to cook up an instant noodle back at our hotel after all.

The restaurant closes at 8pm daily. That's probably the reason why they didn't offer us any cooked food other than the steamed dumplings. Perhaps they've already cleaned up their pots and pans.
