Sisters Noodles 姐妹麵條 (Jeju City, SOUTH KOREA) ★★★★☆

For our first official meal in Jeju Island, I decided to bring my family down to Sisters Noodles (Jamae Guksu 자매국수) for a hearty bowl of Jeju-style noodle soup.

Sisters Noodles is one of the restaurants that came out of my month-long research on Jeju's dining scene. They are really famous for their Gogi Guksu (고기국수 / pork noodle soup) and Bibim Guksu (비빔국수 / mixed spicy noodles).

They have a very "focused" food menu with just 5 or 6 items including their signature Gogi Guksu, Bibim Guksu and bossam (Korean pork belly wrap).

Gogi Guksu (8,000 won) - All of us skipped lunch today due to our flight schedule (from Seoul to Jeju) so everyone's eyes were glowing when these landed on our table. This came with simmered sliced pork, bean sprouts, bean curd and chopped scallions.

This was very very good. Almost like a ramen in Korean style. The egg noodles has surprisingly nice and firm bite. I was expecting the pork broth to be similarly rich flavored as a Japanese style tonkotsu broth but it turned out to be very light and balanced.

Boiled pork dumplings (12,000 won) - Some pork dumplings topped with seaweed flakes to share among the five of us.

Bossam (16,000 won) - The traditional Korean boiled pork belly wrap. These were the same boiled pork slices (from the noodle soup) but this time they were served with lettuce.

I am guessing it's Jeju's prized black pork that they've got here. Just a bit of Korean chili paste already made the pork belly wrap very tasty. Very succulent.

There are two branches of Sister Noodles in Jeju. Their flagship restaurant can be found at Guksu Geori (Jeju's Noodle Culture Street) but expect very long queue at all times. The one we visited tonight was in Nohyeong-dong. It operates 24 hours and when we managed to sneak in at 6:30pm, we didn't have to wait for a table (but after 7pm, the crowded started showing up!).
