Three hours into our exploration in Seongsu-dong, we have sat down a couple of times for sweet treats but nothing in the savory department yet. And as little nugget kept reminding us, we were getting a little late for lunch. So after our quick visit to Dior's concept store, we decided to trot back to Somunnan Gamjatang (소문난 성수 감자탕).
Ever since its appearance on a local TV show, Somunnan Gamjatang is gradually increasing its fanbase. First opened in 1983, this place specializes in gamjatang, a Korean pork and potato stew that comes with a mildly spicy kick.

Some condiments such as chili peppers, cucumber, and ssamjan and of course some kimchi already sitting on the table waiting for the pork stew to arrive.
Known for its generous portion of pork bones and vegetables, a small-sized pork and potato stew (27,000 won) like this one serves up to 3 to 4 people.
A drizzle of the flavorful broth provided a very nice touch to the potatoes and soft bones. The pork bones, in my opinion, were alright but nothing to write home about.
I didn't have very high expectation coming into Somunnan Gamjatang so I wasn't really disappointed on my way out. The broth was definitely the key (perhaps the generous portions too) but it probably wasn't enough to warrant a return trip.
P.S. For all you night owls out there, this gamjatang joint is open 24 hours 7 days a week.
