I am back in Myeongdong to pick up mom and little nugget from Lotte Department Store so Jelloman could get a couple of hours of Me Time on her own. After making a first stop to get little one his "Garten of Banban" characters, it was time to bring the two of them somewhere for a drink.
We walked past METCHA (맷차), a matcha beverage specialist on our first day in Seoul when we were walking over to Won Grandma Bossam for lunch.
At METCHA, they have their own metdol, some sort of traditional Korean stone grinder to grind the tea leaves and coffee beans on the spot.
Everything looked to be done in-house including the matcha and coffee milling process to create the matcha powder. That was quite an experience for us.
Could the freshly milled matcha powder make the beverages much more fragrant? We're about to find out.
This place is absolutely huge. While the kitchen is located on the ground floor of the four-storey building, there are dine-in areas on the three floors upstairs. Very spacious.
We decided to pick this spot overlooking a side street in the Myeongdong shopping area.
It didn't take long before they got our drinks ready.
Can't wait to get a sip of my matcha milk tea.
Iced matcha milk tea (6,500 won) – They have two types of matcha milk tea on the menu, one with roasted green tea but I decided to have the original matcha milk tea instead.
This was really full of fragrance and the tea flavor very deep and distinct. Love it~
Strawberry shake (6,500 won) – Mom had the refreshing strawberry shake but this really didn't look like a typical milkshake as the two layers of milk and strawberry were entirely separated.
Jelloman eventually showed up after she completed her shopping spree, and she was the first of us to spend time checking out the pastries here. I certainly won't mind having one of those matcha tarts or matcha mille crepes.
Curiously, she opted to try their tiramisu instead. An interesting pick at a place famous for their matcha desserts 😅😅😅
A flashback to about an hour ago, when little nugget just discovered his "Garten of Banban" characters at one of the shopping streets behind Sotetsu Fresa Inn. He couldn't believe his luck!
