We started off our morning by stocking up on supplies at Pieri Moriyama (ピエリ守山), a spacious shopping mall just a short stroll from our hotel, before heading out on our scenic drive to Shirahige Shrine (白鬚神社).
I was still on the hunt for a breakfast spot but the search was finally over when I stumbled upon Jack In The Donuts inside the mall.
They call themselves a “bake live café”, with an onsite kitchen where the doughnuts are freshly made, and a cozy dine-in area where you can enjoy your doughnut and drink together.
What I love about Jack In The Donuts is how they incorporate some of the best doughnut styles from around the world into their menu. They even highlight a few on their store map —croissant doughnuts from New York, tofu doughnuts from Japan, and Malasada, a Portuguese-style deep-fried doughnut from Hawaii which I had the pleasure of trying in Tokyo this past January.
With my team off to the supermarket, I had all the time in the world to enjoy this.
Pistachio doughnut – I remember not being too thrilled with the Malasada doughnut I had at their Akihabara (秋葉原) location last time, but this one looked so much lighter and fluffier. It actually reminded me of my favorite doughnuts from I’m Donut?.
The signature “nama” doughnuts from I’m Donut? (literally means “fresh” in Japanese) are known for their airy, soft, melt-in-your-mouth texture, and I could immediately see those same qualities in this pistachio doughnut.
But hey, talk is cheap — time to sink my teeth into it!
Just look at the thickness of the brioche dough. It's incredibly thin, almost like a delicate bag hugging the pistachio custard cream tightly inside. Delish~!
