After just finishing at Standard Donuts, I immediately made my way to Hankyu Sanban Gai (阪急三番街) only a few steps from where I was just standing.
My next stop was another doughnut shop, Piece of Bake which operates four locations across Japan: Tokyo (Kichijōji 吉祥寺), Kobe, and two in Osaka (Umekita Green Placeうめきたグリーンプレイス) and right here at Hankyu Sanban Gai in Umeda (梅田).
Like my favorite doughnut shop, I'm Donut?, Piece of Bake is best known for its fluffy, melt-in-your-mouth “Nama Donuts ("Fresh Donuts" 生ドーナツ)”.
These donuts are made freshly on-site in their open kitchen, which you can truly taste the difference.
Pistachio (450 yen) – Nama donuts are a unique Japanese creation that stand out for their airy, almost brioche-like texture. They’re tender, soft and have that magical melt-in-your-mouth quality that keeps you coming back for more.
I decided to sit down at the Umeda Food Hall right next to the doughnut shop so I could take a bite out of my pistachio nama donut. It was absolutely delicious — light, fluffy, and packed with nutty flavor. Honestly, I thought it came pretty close to the ones from I’m Donut?, which is saying a lot!
