I am stopping by Pacific Place on my way back to the office and since I have not dined with Jelloman on a weekday for quite some time, I have invited her as my partner in crime this afternoon. I have already booked a table at the recently opened Armani Caffè on the fifth floor of the mall.
I first thought this was Armani Caffè's debut in Hong Kong but Jelloman reminded me of their earlier venture at Charter House in Central many years ago. It was named Emporio Armani Cafè back then.
Some focaccia and sourdough bread got the ball rolling.
Tartare di Manzo – My partner started things off with an Angus beef tenderloin tartare, served with a dressing made with perilla and summer vegetables. Unfortunately, she found the seasoning way over the top.
Tartare di Gambero – I had the Sicilian red prawn tartare myself. This was beautifully decorated with condiments of ginger mayo, coriander dust, candied ginger and fresh fennel on top.
Really bright and refreshing flavors, with each ingredient complementing the sweetness of the prawns beautifully.
Pollo Arrostito – To my surprise, the pan-seared chicken breast was incredibly tender and moist. The rich chicken jus brought depth to the dish while the leg croquette on the side was the icing on the cake — crispy on the outside, flavorful within.
Savoiardo Tiramisu – Dessert cost an additional $60 which I was more than happy to pay. It’s been a long time since I last had a tiramisu (and I love them!) so I was really looking forward to it.
This came with ladyfinger, caramelized white chocolate, mascarpone, and coffee; pretty standard for a tiramisu (except for the white chocolate) but I thought it looked and tasted more like a frozen tiramisu ice-cream bar. Perhaps a seasonal twist for summer?
Pacing was pretty efficient today so we got through three dishes well ahead of schedule. Now, it's time to head back to the office and get some work done.
