After lunch, I split up with the crew to continue my quest for the best doughnuts in Osaka. Picking up where I left off before our hotpot lunch near Osaka Station, I set out in search of my next stop – Standard Donuts.
Opened in 2024, Standard Donuts is an Osaka-based doughnut shop originated from the Fukushima (福島) area known for its delicious "Slow Donuts" made with high-quality, sustainable ingredients. Known for its fluffy yet chewy texture, their donuts come in over 20 flavors including the Standard Donut, a simple sugar-dusted doughnut which is one of their best sellers.
I have read about their new branch at Hankyu Osaka Umeda Station (阪急大阪梅田駅) which opened near Exit 3 of the station in May 2025 so I decided to venture over for a closer look.
While this location doesn’t carry all 20+ flavors, the selection was still plenty enough for me.
Standard Donut (220 yen) – Their signature doughnut dusted with wasanbon sugar (no filling).
One thing I’ve learned about doughnuts: less is not always more. I enjoyed the airy, fluffy-yet-chewy texture of the dough, but without any filling in the middle, It felt like something was missing. A solid classic, but perhaps a bit too minimalist for me.
Organic Earl Grey Cream Donut (380 yen) – The dough was noticeably thinner compared to the one I had at P.G.donut earlier, which gave it a better mouthfeel.
The cream filling was smooth and packed with rich Earl Grey tea flavor. It delivered depth without being overly sweet – a perfect balance for tea lovers like me.
