One of the highlights of our stay in Shiga was a trip to Lake Biwa (琵琶湖), a beautifully scenic area known for its picturesque landscapes and natural beauty throughout the year. Unfortunately, since we didn’t arrive at Lake Biwa Marriott Hotel until well after sunset (around 9pm to be exact), we didn’t get to enjoy the scenery until this morning.
Before the trip, I got the memo from my team that we needed a spacious room, and that was one of the main reasons we chose this hotel, aside from the view, of course.
The room itself could be described as minimalist as there weren’t too many design elements, but it was functional and clean, which worked just fine for us.
I should probably crash early tonight as we’ve got a ton of activities lined up for tomorrow.
There’s definitely some room for improvement in the bathroom. A second basin would have been a nice touch.
The shower setup felt a bit dated as well and I was surprised to see a tub-and-shower combo. I thought most hotels had moved on to more modern walk-in showers these days but then again, this hotel was originally built in 1985 and only underwent minor renovations in 2017.
Now, about that stunning view of Lake Biwa that was so widely advertised. It really did live up to the hype. If it wasn't for the nasty heat, I definitely would’ve gone out for a light jog along the lake.
We have a lot of ground to cover this morning. First up is Pieri Moriyama, one of the largest shopping malls in Shiga, just a 2-minute drive from the hotel. I am hoping to get a small breakfast there, perhaps with a caffeine fix.
