After a long and hardworking day at Akihabara (秋葉原) and Marunouchi (丸の内), my team returned to the hotel ready to crash early. But I was a man on a mission. On a mission for a late-night ramen.
Fortunately, we were staying just a stone's throw from Tsukiji Market (築地市場), a place where delicious food is never in short supply even at this late hour (around 9:30pm). Like a few dining spots in the area, Ramen Oyster And Shell (らぁ麺 牡蠣と貝) remained open late at night. In fact until 4am the next morning.
I wasted no time getting my tickets from the vending machine at the entrance and grabbed a seat to wait patiently in the cold.
While the wait was only 15 minutes or so, I could finally breathe a sigh of relief now that I have secured a seat at the counter table.
I have to admit, they have made a pretty strong impression on me just with the interior decor and attention to details. I love the modern Japanese elements, including the tatami mat surface on the counter tables, which added a touch of traditional warmth to the space.
Rich oyster ramen (濃厚牡蠣らぁ麺) (1,080 yen) – The ramen noodles were hidden under the light greenish oyster broth with toppings of green onions, red sprouts, bamboo shoots, seaweed, marinated egg and roasted pork shoulder.
As usual, I took a quick sip of the broth before trying the noodles. It was rich with briny flavors from the oysters, complemented nicely by a hint of zesty lemon.
Marinated egg (150 yen) – A bit of flavors from the shellfish there but the only blemish, the egg yolk wasn't runny enough.
The pork shoulder offered plenty of bite! 👍👍
I thought the thick noodles would do a better job absorbing the flavors of the rich broth but that was not entirely the case. It was good but not great.
