Everyone was taking it easy this morning. With Jelloman sleeping in and little nugget spending time on his homework (yeah, he brought it along on this trip), I decided to enjoy a leisurely walk around Tsukiji Outer Market (築地場外市場), which is just around the corner from our hotel.
I was looking for a breakfast spot and then I saw this little lineup in front of Toritoh Bunten (鳥めし鳥藤分店).
Toritoh Bunten is a well-known eatery located in Tsukiji Outer Market specializing in chicken dishes. Operated by Torifuji (鳥藤), a long-established poultry wholesaler, this shop offers high-quality chicken meals at reasonable prices.
Premier Oyakodon (親子丼 上) – For their signature oyakodon, the menu features three different varieties ranging from 1,100 yen to 2,100 yen. The middle-priced option at 1,500 yen was the one I chose.
It took nearly 10 minutes to prepare but finally, the mouthwatering chicken and egg rice bowl arrived, filling the air with a delightful aroma that I could smell from quite a distance away.
The sauce is definitely the key component that elevates the dish here. It consists of a blend of egg yolk, soy sauce and dashi, creating a nice balance of savory and sweet flavors.
The juicy cuts of chicken thigh came with rich taste and moist texture. 👍👍
The set also included a rich and flavorful chicken broth.
After my breakfast, I strolled through the narrow streets of the same block. The vendors in this section of the Tsukiji Outer Market appeared to specialize more in dry foods and seafood.
