Mr. CHEESECAKE is a famous Japanese cheesecake brand known for its unique texture and rich flavor. It was founded by Chef Koji Tamura, a former Michelin-starred restaurant chef, who wanted to create a cheesecake unlike any other. The brand originally started as an online-only shop with limited pickup spots in Tokyo. During my travels in Tokyo, I made numerous attempts to get my hands on their signature cheesecake but every single time, it was completely sold out within the matter of minutes. Now that they're coming back to Hong Kong for a winter pop-up, this time in Pacific Place (after a short stint in K11 Musea), I know this is my chance to get it done.
This has to be the most expensive cheesecake I've ever bought (HK$385).
It took me a while to get it out of the box after it had defrosted.
Here's my share of Mr. CHEESECAKE's original flavored cheesecake. No question, they came with incredibly fluffy texture and rich creaminess primarily derived from high-quality cream cheese among other ingredients. The combination definitely offers a luxurious mouthfeel that appeals to any cheesecake lover. But for the casual diners like myself, it felt a little like having ice-cream flavored heavily with cream cheese. I do like the temperature which was quite pleasing for the palate but for the heavy price tag that we're paying, I demand a little more.
