Kichijōji (吉祥寺) is a popular district in the western side of Tokyo, Japan, best known for its unique blend of nature, shopping, food, and culture. While most Hongkongers are here for shopping, I decided to explore its diverse café scene starting with Liberté Pâtisserie Boulangerie.
I first discovered Liberté Pâtisserie Boulangerie when we were in Kyoto, where they have a small bakery near Kiyomizu-dera that mainly sells croissants and soft serve. But this location offered a completely different experience, with a wider selection of French breads and an extensive collection of pastries.
And it was their pastries that quickly caught my eyes.
With so many exquisite French desserts to choose from, I can’t decide where to start!
The good thing was that I have all the time in the world to spend this afternoon, with mom and little nugget having an afternoon tea of their own.
I ended up going upstairs to their café where I treated myself to a cake set.
Surprise, surprise, I was the only male customer here.
Savarin aux poires (700 yen) – I thought it looked quite appealing but I forgot to check the list of ingredients. Not exactly what I was hoping for (I thought it was a mousse cake).
The cake consisted mainly of brioche dough made with flour from the renowned Moulins Bourgeois mill in France, and has been soaked in pear syrup.
It was added with a generous portion of spiced whipped cream and some pear compote on top. Like I said, not exactly what I was looking for. And there was a ton of better options left and right.
The iced milk tea was also a little underwhelming. The tea flavors fell short of what I expected from a Japanese royal milk tea.
Well, that didn't work out too well. Just as I was ready to leave, I got a ping from Jelloman asking me to meet her up for some shopping. I guess mom and little one won't mind waiting a little longer.
