Mr. CHEESECAKE was an itch I was desperate to scratch before and during COVID-19. It was a time when the renowned Japanese cheesecake brand known for its unique texture and rich flavor, only operates as an online shop. During my travels in Tokyo, I have made numerous attempts to get my hands on their signature cheesecake but only to find that it was completely sold out within the matter of minutes every single time.
My craving for their cheesecake had subsided until recently when I stumbled upon their pop-up store in Pacific Place. That encounter reignited my desire to explore more of their flavors. And tonight, I finally got the chance to do just that while we were having dinner at Tokyo Station.
The cheesecake specialist has a small pop-up store at First Avenue Tokyo Station (東京站一番街) although most of the flavors were already sold out for the day.
Petit Valentine Assortment (2,781yen) – A small gift box for Valentine's Day consisting of three different flavors: classic, chocolate cream and chocolate cookies.
There's no way that we're bringing this back to Hong Kong.
Which flavor should we start with?
Classic – We had this in Hong Kong before. The texture was frosty and it felt almost like having cream cheese.
Chocolate cream – The label said "Chocolate cream" but I thought it's more like "Chocolate chips". The flavor and texture were both very similar to the classic one except that it came with chocolate chips front and centre.
I also checked the price of a loaf of classic cheesecake here (full-size). Turns out it costs around 3,600yen (~HK$180). That means we're paying more than twice that amount at their Hong Kong pop-up (HK$385). Definitely not great value for money!
