Kurokatsu-tei Tokyo Station 黒かつ亭 東京駅店 (Tokyo, JAPAN) ★★★☆☆

Following a long long day in Karuizawa (輕井澤), we were simply looking for a casual meal at First Avenue Tokyo Station (東京站一番街) without much of a wait. But the irresistible aroma of tonkatsu coming out of the kitchen of Kurokatsu-tei (黒かつ亭) changed everything. There was no turning back.

We waited for at least half an hour and finally got ourselves a table.

Kurokatsu-tei is best known for its black pork tonkatsu (黒豚とんかつ, Kurobuta Tonkatsu), made from high-quality Kagoshima Kurobuta (黒豚), a premium breed of Berkshire black pork from Kagoshima Prefecture.

The black pork from Kagoshima is known for its rich flavor, tenderness and marbled fat, which enhances the juiciness of the tonkatsu. We're definitely in for a treat!

I love the soft buttery texture, deep umami flavor and of course, the rich fattiness that makes each bite incredibly satisfying.

This didn't taste like a typical white miso soup. It was light and came with a share amount of chopped vegetables on the bottom.
