Tim Ho Wan, the Dim-Sum Specialists 添好運點心專門店 (Hong Kong, CHINA) ★☆☆☆☆

In a perfect world, we probably won't be having supper here tonight. But after an eventful day at Hong Kong Palace Museum (香港故宮文化博物館), we ventured over to the Rapid Train Station in West Kowloon to get our tickets for next weekend, and little nugget wanted something quick at the station. That was the storyline.

So, I was given direct instructions to settle for dinner at Tim Ho Wan, the Dim-Sum Specialists (添好運點心專門店). It's located on the mezzanine floor overlooking the waiting area of the departure hall.

I could see why there were such a crowd queuing up to get into this restaurant that I have been trying to avoid for the past decade. Location, location, location. And of course, it's reasonably cheap.

Steamed fresh shrimp dumpling (晶瑩鮮蝦餃) – There was this weird odor in the shrimp dumpling but I wasn't sure if it came from the wrapper or minced shrimp. This probably had something to do with their freezer.

Steamed pork and shrimp dumpling (鮮蝦燒賣皇) – Decent and pretty meaty.

Pan-fried turnip cake (香煎蘿蔔糕) – At this point, we were getting a feeling that most of these dishes were badly under-seasoned. The turnip cake also came with no seasoning but that was fine as we had chilli sauce among other sauces to make up for it.

Steamed rice flour roll with deep fried dough (炸両) – The dough was so chewy that it hurt my teeth.

Baker bun with barbecued pork (酥皮焗叉燒包) – A dish that I didn't get the chance to try myself.

Stir-fried noodles with soy sauce (豉油皇炒麵) – Talked about an under-seasoned dish here. This didn't even come with any flavors from the soy sauce. Just really bland. The worst dish of the night.

Steamed rice with dried squid and water chestnut (土魷馬蹄肉餅飯) – And I thought it couldn't get any worse from here. The silky smooth minced pork just didn't have any bite to it at all. Jelloman and I were saying that the one from Tong Kee Bao Dim (唐記包點) was better by a country mile. This was just pure crap.

Steamed egg cake (香滑馬拉糕) – Finally, something with a bit of texture and flavors (it's sweet!).

I think Tim Ho Wan is just a classic example of an overrated restaurant getting a boost from the Michelin guide. Luckily, I didn't have to bother with their food over the years and this is probably a final nail to the coffin.
