KiKi Noodle Bar K11 Musea (Hong Kong, CHINA) ★★☆☆☆

I've been craving for a nice bowl of stirred noodles with crab roes and meat (純蟹黄金撈面) ever since I returned from Beijing. That trip to Xie Man Lou Crab Roes Noodles (蟹滿樓 蟹黄面) really got me starting to appreciate any dish made with crab roes. Unfortunately, crab roe specialists in Hong Kong are few and far between unless you splurge at Tien Hsiang Lo (天香樓) which I was planning to do just yet.

But words have KiKi Noodle Bar dubbed as a poor man's choice when it comes to crab roes noodle. In fact, my colleague told me that KiKi's crab egg gravy mixed noodles (蟹黃油拌麵) was the closest resemblance of Xie Man Lou Crab Roes Noodles' crab roe noodles he had ever seen in town. So, without further delay, I decided to bring Jelloman and little nugget along to witness what that's all about.

Crab egg gravy mixed noodles (蟹黃油拌麵) – As I've already noticed from the food menu, the crab roe gravy looks a little more yellowish than what we've seen in Beijing but otherwhere not much difference there.

This was much much lighter than the crab roe sauce we got in Beijing. Lighter as in volume of crab roes and meat. The texture of this was more gluey and it felt like there was a hint of pumpkin in there; thus, the yellowish color.

I have to say, this was a very bad interpretation of the real deal and it was definitely not enough to stop anyone's craving of crab roes. The biggest problem here was the lack of umami-rich flavors which have made crab roes some of the most exciting ingredients in Chinese cuisine. For that, I will have to wait for my chance to visit Guangzhou sometime, as I was told that there's a branch of Xie Man Lou Crab Roes Noodles (蟹滿樓) recently opened there.

Taiwanese sausage with garlic (蒜片台式腸) – The slices of sausage was a little more smoky than I expected. Not bad.

I was here to stop my craving for crab roes and it obviously didn't do the job for me. I think that's two strikes on this Taiwanese noodle bar right there. But don't tell this noodle-loving kid that the noodles weren't good enough, okay!? 😁😂
