Four Season Coconut Grove 四季椰林海南椰子雞 華僑城歡樂海岸店 (Shenzhen, CHINA) ★★★★☆

The kids had four hours of non-stop action at OCT Harbour (歡樂海岸) after lunch. By 6pm, they were starting to run out of gas so we knew immediately that it was time for dinner. As we have agreed during lunch, it's going to be hotpot dinner tonight at Four Season Coconut Grove (四季椰林海南椰子雞 華僑城歡樂海岸店), one of the more popular hotpot restaurants in Shenzhen with 33 branches and counting.



Thanks to the hard work by Ben Sir, we got ourselves a private room free of charge. With the amount of noise the kids'll be generating, it's probably a good thing.

There were two things which were key to this hotpot, the juicy Wenchang chicken (文昌雞) and a broth made with coconut juice. Our server first started off by putting the chicken pieces into the broth and let it cook for a while.

Once the broth absorbed the umami-rich flavors from the chicken, it was ready for the meat and veggies. 

Little nugget wanted to throw the entire dish of fatty beef into the broth!? 😆

Claypot rice with cured meat (臘味煲仔飯) – Another highlight of the meal was the clay pot rice with Chinese cured meat. This looked like normal rice rather than glutinous rice (which we were used to in Hong Kong), which was far less oily. I have to admit, this was very tasty. 

We have one last item on our itinerary, Sam's Club, a members-only retailer with wholesale operations. This place has been really hot of late and they even have guided tours bringing people from Hong Kong over via shuttle bus.

P.S. This is a very good meal. Everybody seems to enjoy it. We also got some good news when the bill arrived. Just $700~ for 11 people. Talk about money well-spent here.
