We were picking up our little nugget from a fellow school parent's place in the late afternoon. Since our meet-up spot was near Ngau Tau Kok, it made perfect sense to have dinner at Telford Plaza.
It had been a while since I last set foot in Telford Plaza and not surprisingly, many new restaurants and cafés had taken over some of the old favorites. One of the most eye-catching newcomers was Maison Saigon, a beautifully decorated Vietnamese restaurant offering authentic Vietnamese and Asian dishes.
We managed to sneak in just before 6pm, and as expected, only a few guests were there enjoying their afternoon tea.
I started things off with a refreshing glass with iced lime tea.
Signature Beef Pho and Boneless Hainanese chicken ($138) – This set featured two of the restaurant’s signature items: beef pho made with Angus beef and boneless Hainanese chicken served with aromatic rice.
I thought the Hainanese chicken was pretty nice. The meat was tender and the rice was pleasantly fragrant without being overly oily. Not bad.
The Angus beef in the pho had a lovely texture that paired well with the noodles and the rich, flavorful broth.
Beef brisket, tendon and tongue in mild yellow curry, jasmine rice ($108) – I had the yellow curry myself and it lived up to its description — mild, with a pleasant sweetness and a rich coconut aroma.
The combination of beef brisket, tendon and tongue was pretty tender, and doing a great job soaking up the rich curry flavors.
Each set was perfectly portioned for one person and considering the price they were charging, it felt like a rare bargain in today’s dining scene.
