Lemon Cafe (檸檬冰室) is a small local cha chaan teng chain who has been gaining traction in recent years. As of this writing, they have five locations scattered across West and East Kowloon. I have never had the pleasure of checking them out personally but this afternoon, I finally did.
This branch in Kwun Tong is a pretty big one. I think it can easily accommodate 100 guests at the same time.
Hong Kong style Borscht soup (羅宋湯) – It featured a reasonably rich, tomato-based broth. Nothing groundbreaking, but solid and very typical of what you’d expect at a local café.
Iced milk tea (凍奶茶) – Rich and smooth, with a strong tea flavor balanced by the creamy evaporated milk. Not bad.
Braised abalone sauce rice with diced chicken (鮑汁雞粒炒飯) – The abalone sauce was a little bit too mild and the rice probably a touch too soupy for my liking. But I liked the large chunks of diced chicken and of course, the two pieces of abalone.
Nothing really stood out in this meal but then again, it's local cha chaan teng fare during a busy hour. What more can you really expect? At least, nothing failed.
