Cheung Hong Yuen Lai Chi Kok 祥香園餐廳 荔枝角店 (Hong Kong, CHINA) ★★★☆☆

The Four Scholars (四大才子) were supposed to meet up in late April when Nik came back from Manchester but some family matters popped up and I was unable to meet up with him during his stay. Now that he's returned home in UK, the three scholars have decided to meet over breakfast this week.

They have been telling about this new cha chaan teng in Lai Chi Kok called Cheung Hong Yuen (祥香園餐廳) which has taken over the space previously occupied by the once-popular Swiss Cafe (瑞士咖啡室). I decided to head over for a quick look before breakfast tomorrow but as soon as I pushed the door open, I was greeted by two of their employees. Well, I guess I could use an afternoon tea at this hour.

Iced milk tea (凍奶茶) – The tea was pretty light but there was enough milk to keep the creamy texture intact. OK.

Deep-fried chicken leg with fries (雞脾薯條) – This took a while to arrive. I thought the chicken leg was pretty decent. The crispy skin was a little chewy but the meat was juicy enough. I didn't think the fries were tasty enough even from a cha chaan teng but at least they didn't ruin them by overshooting with salt.

I won't say it's a nice first impression to be brutally honest but let's give them one more chance tomorrow at breakfast.
