Yin Yue at Panda Hotel 殷悦中菜廳 悦來酒店 (Hong Kong, CHINA) ★★★☆☆

I am meeting an ex-colleague of mine for lunch today and someone has picked the venue for us – Yin Yue (殷悦中菜廳) at Panda Hotel (悦來酒店). I guess not a bad place if you are looking to enjoy some decent dim sum in Tsuen Wan.

Crispy pork belly (明爐脆皮燒腩仔) ($58) – Perfectly balanced layers of fat, crispy crackling, and tender lean meat.

Fried egg noodles with shredded pork (豚肉絲炒麵) ($188) – The fried egg noodles arrived just in front of......

The sauce came separately. There were strips of shredded pork, mushroom, bean sprouts and yellow chives in the rich and thick sauce.

Pretty tasty.

Yin Yue's signature shrimp dumplings (殷悅馳名鮮蝦餃) ($56) – Very delicate.

Steamed rice flour rolls with crunchy prawn (脆皮鮮竹蝦腸粉) ($60) – The deep-fried crunchy bits inside provided some nice contrasting texture for the steamed rice flour rolls.

Steamed chicken with cordyceps and fish maw (蟲草花棉花雞) ($56) – This came relatively late when we have pretty much finished our meal. We had to chase them time and time again and had to put up with their lame excuse that freshly made dim sum takes half an hour. But in reality, we had been waiting for nearly an hour.

I absolutely hated the lighting here as it really messed up my photo-taking. Even worse than the lighting, though, was the pacing of the meal. There were long gaps between each dim sum dish, and oddly enough, the fried noodles arrived as the second dish well before our har gow and steamed rice rolls. Let's just say it was a pretty lousy job by the kitchen and the service by the front-line staff certainly didn't help.
