After we finished with all our business, it was finally time to celebrate Father's Day. It's my 10th Father's Day celebration and needless to say, I was more excited than nervous now.
Our dinner took place at Duck de King (金鴨季), which was perched on the 5th floor of Haiya Mega Mall (海雅繽紛城) right next to where little nugget had just finished his dim sum lesson.
This was my second visit to this Peking duck specialist, and I still never get tired of watching the chef roast the ducks over the woodfire.
Peking-style roast duck (北京烤鴨 半只) (¥158) – As usual, the duck was carved tableside.
Ready to be served!
Among all the places we’ve had Peking duck in Shenzhen, Duck de King easily has the best chun bing (春饼). It was soft, pliable, and just perfect for wrapping that crispy duck skin with scallions, cucumber, and a touch of hawthorn (山楂) jelly.
The smoky aroma from the fruit wood fire gives it such a distinctive flavor. This place is right up there with Jingwei Zhang Roast Duck Restaurant (京味張烤鴨店) on my favorite Peking duck list.
Deboned duck web marinated with mustard sauce (芥末鴨掌) (¥68) – Very crunchy as usual and the mustard sauce provided a nice extra kick.
Steamed tofu with crab roes (蟹黃豆腐) (¥68) – Another house specialty. Smooth and satisfying. Not bad.
When it comes to Peking duck in Shenzhen, Duck de King always ranks very high on my list. The only drawback? Their food menu offers very limited beyond the duck itself. I often find it hard to come up with enough delectable dishes that are just as memorable to complete the meal.
Still, for the duck alone, it’s always worth the visit.
