Fat J Char Siu 發達叉燒 (Hong Kong, CHINA) ★★★☆☆

In recent months, I’ve heard so much about Flower Drum (鋒膳) and its popular offshoot, Fat J Char Siu (發達叉燒), which has made a name for itself with its specialty, mouthwatering char siu (叉燒). So I figured it was finally time to make that much-anticipated visit. After all, both little nugget and his old man are big-time fans of Cantonese barbecued pork.

It’s clear this city isn’t short on fans of Cantonese barbecued meats (燒味), just take a look at the packed house and the line stretching out the door!

Pork belly char siu (五花腩叉燒) ($147) – Who doesn't like fatty pork belly dare to raise your hand?

These ten slices of pork belly char siu came with a whopping $147 price tag so I'm hoping that they taste as good as advertised.

It had pretty nice charring and just the right amount of marbling sandwiched between layers of meat, resulting in a wonderfully bouncy and tender texture.

It was nice to cross this off my to-do list in Wanchai. Other than the fact that it was a little heavy-handed with the honey glaze, I had nothing but praise for this pork belly char siu. But would I do it again with the hefty price? That's something worth exploring.
