Golden Tao Tao Ju MixC World 金牌陶陶居 萬象天地店 (Shenzhen, CHINA) ★★★★☆

We are back in Shenzhen celebrating Father’s Day this weekend with the elderly. We started our morning with a stroll around Link City (連城新天地), followed by a quick breakfast at our usual spot.

Afterwards, it was gaming time. It took me a while to get setup (again) but I finally got on track.

As one of the dads receiving a warm welcome for today's celebration, I decided to step back this afternoon and let Jelloman take charge. We ended up heading to Golden Tao Tao Ju (金牌陶陶居) at MixC (萬象天地), a place we hadn't visited in a while.

We finally got our table after a pretty long wait.

Tao Tao Ju jumbo prawn dumpling (陶陶居大蝦餃) – Always a crowded pleaser around here. This came packed with diced shrimps, shrimp mousse and bamboo shoot.

Crispy tofu cubes (一口酥豆腐) – The thick batter was nice and crispy working well with the silky smooth tofu.

Stir-fried rice rolls with beef briskets (牛腩啫珍珠腸) – Another favorite dim sum of ours which we haven’t had for quite some time. Pretty nice!

Jumbo-sized Guangzhou-style youtiao (安心廣式大油條) – Obviously, Jelloman had to have this. I thought the dough was a little thicker than usual (which was mostly paper-thin).

Seafood scallop dumpling (海鮮帶子甘筍餃) – One reason we love coming back here is their ever-changing dim sum menu. They always seem to have something new every month and this was one of the newcomers.

The wrapper was flavored with carrot so a bit of sweetness to go with the diced scallop, celery, mushroom and black fungus there. I thought there was a hint of black truffle too.

Steamed rice flour rolls with scrambled egg and prawns (鮮蝦韭王滑蛋腸) – Another new addition to the menu, or perhaps something I overlooked before. These rolls were filled with runny scrambled eggs and prawns, and I found them even better than the scallop dumpling.

Sizzling stir-fried lettuce in clay pot (啫啫生菜煲) – Some sizzling hot lettuce to wrap things up as we usually do.

It was nice to come back here for our Father’s Day celebration despite the 30-minute wait.
With about eight stations between us and our destination (Hi-Tech Park), I figured we had plenty of time to secure our table but apparently, my calculation was off due to the fact that it was Father’s Day!

After spending a little bit of time at MixC, we were on the move again and this time, we were heading towards Haiya Mega Mall (海雅繽紛城), where little nugget was having his dim sum lesson. Guess where the lesson was hosted? Another branch of Tao Tao Ju!

I thought he had a little bit of fun learning how to make har gow and siu mai this afternoon. I got into the act a little as well giving him a helping hand with his siu mai which at first, looked more like a xiao long bao. That was a fun-filled afternoon.
