After a brief stop in Lyon, we drove down to Avignon to spend a couple of days there exploring the area. We are staying at Hotel Le Bristol Avignon, a charming 4-star establishment located within the historic city walls of Avignon.
The hotel is conveniently situated on the Cours Jean Jaurès, the city's main boulevard that leads directly to the Place de l'Horloge and the Palais des Papes. Its centralized location was my primary reason for choosing the hotel, although it does have some drawbacks typical of older establishments. The most notable one was the stairs both inside and outside the premise, which made transporting our luggage a little challenging. The availability of a concierge or bell service would have been immensely helpful too.
The hotel lobby was hugely spacious.
I've seen a dining area deep inside the lobby but since we chose not to partake in the hotel breakfast, we didn’t have the opportunity to experience it.
Traveling in Europe can often be a headache when trying to find hotel rooms with two beds. This is exactly why I picked Hotel Le Bristol Avignon in the first place. Their family room is equipped with both a double and single bed, making it ideal for families traveling with children.
While the bedroom was a little bit small in size, the bathroom offered much more space.
The shower room was adequate in size and perhaps considered big in European standard.
The toilet was fine.
When I was doing my research on this hotel, the online reviews frequently highlighted the excellent central location which proved to be accurate. It was really nice to be staying within the historic walls of the ancient city to soak up the local atmosphere. Grocery shops, bakeries, and underground parking were all just steps from the hotel.
One memorable incident occurred when one of the two elevators (a very small one that accommodates about 3-4 people) broke down in the morning. We found ourselves dragging three heavy bags and multiple smaller bags across the building to access the second elevator. That turned out to be quite the adventure!
Overall, we had a pleasant stay at Hotel Le Bristol Avignon, marked by its excellent location and family-friendly accommodations, despite some logistical challenges. It certainly didn't hurt to have Place de l'Horloge and the Palais des Papes within walking distance of the hotel.
