Work continues to be very busy for me so we have pushed back on the idea of a “decent meal” until mid July. In the meantime, with little one off to a birthday party tonight, Jelloman and I decided to have a simple (but satisfying) meal at our neighborhood pasta bar, Pici.
As usual, we are getting ourselves the set menu for two, which consists of two starters, two pasta and two desserts.
Tuna tartare – The tuna tartare was nicely complemented by diced avocado, pickled onion and a house dressing primarily made with a sweet soy sauce that came with a spicy kick. It was as good as what we had on our last visit, which speaks volumes about the restaurant, especially since many other local restaurants are on a steady decline.
Octopus salad – This came with a generous portion of poached octopus, cucumber, olives, potato, tomato and oregano. With the olives and lemon dressing, we knew there was going to be some lovely acidity in the mix, and not surprisingly, it formed a formidable bond with the super tender octopus.
Chitarra king prawns – The squid-ink chitarra was incredibly fresh, so just a simple toss with chili, garlic, cherry tomatoes and prawn bisque already made it very heavenly.
Pappardelle beef cheek – As good as the chitarra was, I thought the pappardelle was even more delicious tonight. Very exciting bite from the thick pasta was beautifully matched with a soft and delicate beef cheek ragu which has been slow-cooked for eight hours. My favorite pasta dish here as always.
Tiramisu – I had a rather disappointing “lift me up” at BluHouse the other day but I knew I could count on the signature tiramisu here.
This was again very nice and fluffy. The foamy texture was exactly what I was looking for. But if I want to be picky about it, perhaps they could tone down on the amount of liquor to make the ladyfinger less soggy.
Well, that was a satisfying dinner without breaking the bank. Still another two weeks and I’ll be home free.
