Arcente Residence Myeongdong (Seoul, SOUTH KOREA)

When I was putting together the itinerary for this trip, someone from the high above (i.e. management level at home) requested that we stay at Moxy Myeongdong again. For someone who claimed to be adventurous and not boring, it was a NO NO to stay at the same hotel two years in a roll, especially since both trips were only ten months apart. This fueled my desire to find ourselves a new place while keeping my promise of staying in Myeongdong (明洞).

Another factor to consider was that little nugget would be tagging along on this one. That means more space to run around. It got me thinking about an aparthotel. And after weeks of online research, I finally stumbled upon Arcente Residence Myeongdong which has just joined some of the hotel booking sites in recent weeks.

Tucked away just across the street from some of the busiest streets in Myeongdong, Arcente is an unconventional aparthotel without standard hotel services like a check-in counter or on-site staff (there was apparently a management office). It felt more like an Airbnb. In fact, we rarely met any hotel staff other than on the first night when a gentleman verified our identity and gave us the passcode to access the elevator and our apartment. In fact, that was the last time we saw the gentleman or any of Arcente’s staff during our stay.

Let’s talk about the apartment itself. Located on the fifth floor, our two-bedroom unit was tastefully designed with modern touches.

The open kitchen was clean and sleek, featuring a sink, stove, microwave, and refrigerator.

There was even a washing machine next to the sink (my better half did complain about the absence of washing powder).....

And drawers stocked with pots, pans, glasses, cutlery, and more. All in all, it had everything we needed for a month-long stay.

There was of course the spacious living room for little nugget to do his thing (otherwise, why would we consider staying here?).

The ceiling-to-floor windows provided a stunning view of Myeongdong, with Migliore Hotel and shopping mall in the backdrop.

The first of the two bedrooms was an en-suite with the same city view as the living room.

It would have been nice to have a queen bed, but the double bed was comfortable enough.

The lone bathroom has two doors, one connecting to the master bedroom and another to the living room. Yeah, we have talked about this for a couple of days. The apartment could definitely use a second bathroom.

Pretty well-appointed.

The second bedroom next to the entrance corridor, featured two single beds but unfortunately, due to the small size of the room, the door couldn’t open fully.

A control panel on the wall takes care of everything including the lights and air con.

There are some appliances here you don’t normally find from a typical hotel, such as this LG Styler. It’s a quick and easy way to sanitize, deodorize and remove wrinkles from clothes. My family absolutely loves it!

Another advantage of staying at Arcente was its incredible location. The facility was right above Exits 2 and 3 of Myeongdong Station, making life much simpler. In fact, we had a nice view of the station exit directly from our window.

Having the extra space at Arcente added to our wonderful experience in Seoul and the fact that it was right in the backyard of bustling Myeongdong, brilliant!
