The JANG - Pocha & Korean Cuisine (Hong Kong, CHINA) ★★★☆☆

Work has kept me real busy the last couple of weeks but I was lucky enough to get the long weekend off to enjoy some much deserved rest. We have another busy schedule on Labour Day, with a visit to the Hong Kong Space Museum (香港太空館) early in the morning, followed by a stroll at K11 Musea with some of little nugget's friends. Needless to say, we were dead tired when we approached the late afternoon stage; but just when I was ready to call it the day (and head home for supper), Jelloman hinted that she wanted a simple dinner outside, and preferably a Korean style one. 😅

It's been a few months since we last dined out twice on the same day but since my better half was so keen to make it happen, I was only too happy to accommodate her wish. But she wanted Korean food and that was the difficult part. As I have never been a fan of Korean cuisine, I don't really have a list of Korean restaurants off the top of my head but somehow my memory started to come back......

I recall reading about this multi-concept Korean restaurant called The JANG at K11 Art Mall. It's a jack-of-all-trade restaurant featuring a Korean noodle bar, Korean BBQ and more. That's exactly what we were looking for, something simple (like a bowl of noodles). At least that was the initial plan going forward.

But one thing led to another and the next thing I realized we were having Korean BBQ! We haven't done it for so long!

The BBQ set came with some seriously good Korean fried chicken. The honey aioli was really nice.

So our simple dinner has turned into this, a beef and pork set with Hanwoo 1++ sirloin, hanging tender and more ($598).

Starting things off were a bit of mushrooms, onion and what I thought were strips of ox tongue.

Although the texture tasted nothing like it. Perhaps, it's the hanging tender then?

The mushroom wasn't bad.

Next, Iberico pork belly. Judging from the description on the menu, I am assuming that these didn't come from Jeju Island? I also threw in some "pork rib fingers" for good measures.

These were what they called the pork rib fingers. It had this really funny texture. A little chewy but I thought pretty tasty. It was best eaten with sea salt or honey aioli (from the fried chicken)!

Now, the perfectly grilled pork belly.

Delish! Perfect with the sea salt. Easily the star of the night.

We saved the best for last, Hanwoo 1++! As I have said quite a few times before, Korean Hanwoo beef are some of the most overrated and overpriced breed of beef in the world. They did very good marketing by comparing it with Kobe beef but quite honestly, it was not even close.

This was not surprisingly just OK. Not enough marbling which isn't its forte to begin with but even the flavors not nearly rich enough.

The portion was really big for the two of us and we ended up taking some of the raw meat back home.
