Last time J.E.R.K. met up for a dinner gathering was a fateful night back in December 2021. It's been almost six months now and we have been joking about having a gathering before the sixth wave hit us. It didn't take long before someone actually finalized a date and venue. It's always good news that I don't have to fix the venue cuz frankly speaking, I have done too much of that for the family already.
Our dinner venue was Nan Ei Sui San (南瀛水產), a Japanese izakaya that I have never had the pleasure of visiting in the past. It was surprisingly full on a Wednesday evening so I trust that it must be a pretty good restaurant.
Our good friend here has reserved a private room for us and that's important considering how loud Hanger Jack gets when we meet up. Especially when he's telling his dirty jokes.
Some snacks to start our dinner with, first some edamame that usually goes well with beer. But most of us didn't drink tonight.
I like their tamagoyaki mainly because of the grated daikon radish on top. This came with some pretty rich flavors from the homemade dashi.
I have never said no to deep-fried oysters before but these ones were......well, not all that tasty.
The crab roes dish was supposed to be their signature dish and they actually prepared it tableside. Not bad.
At this point, most of us were still starving so we got ourselves some assorted sushi including this maki platter to share among the four of us.
It was another fun night for us joking about our past and future. Good news was that none of us would be skipping town any time soon so we could do this all over again, hopefully in a couple of months.
