The Grand Opening of Exhibition Centre MTR Station a BIG deal for us!

I can't remember the last time people were so excited about the opening of a new MTR station. I guess Exhibition Centre Station is supposed to be a BIG deal. It's kind of like the last piece of the puzzle bringing the East Rail line across the harbour.

As a casual fan, I didn't wake up to see the first train crossing the harbour, nor the second. We took our time and had sushi lunch at Pacific Place first. 

It's been a while since I had sushi with the gang so needless to say, everyone was a happy camper. I was particularly happy with their innovative sushi including this one with scallop topped by a sheet of kimchi jelly, caviar and gold leaves. A really nice symphony of tantalizing flavors and textures there.

After lunch, we took a slow and deliberate walk towards the Harcourt Garden (夏慤花園) end of the station and checked out the new exit. This area has been closed down for construction for so many years. Good to have it finally see some daylight! 

Just when little guy thought we were going down the escalator to take the MTR to the new Exhibition Centre Station, we circled around the station and started walking towards the exhibition centre instead. Little that he knows, we still have another destination ahead of us before we visit the brand new MTR station (High tea at JAJA!).

Fast forward to a couple of hours later (after high tea), we finally made it to the new station and its harbour front exit.

Little one was pretty excited but obviously not as excited as he was at JAJA earlier.

For the first day of operation, it didn't look as crowded as I first thought. Perhaps it was getting late?

Of course, I had to get a selfie of myself in front of the Exhibition Centre" station sign too.

Instead of taking the East Rail all the way to Hunghom, we ended up taking a detour to avoid the crowd. Yeah, I was wrong about the East Rail cross-harbour extension not crowded on its first day. 



I am glad we were part of history today!!! 😊😊
