This branch of Yojiya Café wasn't even on the map or Yojiya's official website but I stumbled upon it while looking for Liberté Boulangerie-Pâtisserie. It was right across the street from the French bakery.
Founded in 1904, Yojiya (よーじや) is of course the famous Japanese cosmetics brand from Kyoto best known for its high-quality beauty products and traditional Japanese aesthetic. The brand also runs a number of dessert cafés in the city but during COVID-19, all with the exception of its Sagano Arashiyama branch (嵯峨野嵐山店) closed down due to a significant decline in tourism.
But with tourists coming back since 2023, they have decided to open a couple of new locations again including this one near Kiyomizu (清水五條).
This small café near Kiyomizu-dera offers a limited selection of parfaits in various flavors (including matcha, roasted green tea, French toast with matcha just to name a few) along with a few choices of cappuccino. These can be purchased from the vending machine outside the shop, similar to a ramen shop.
Once I entered the café, I realized that it was standing dessert bar with no seats available.
It took a while for the team to get my matcha parfait (850 yen) ready. And just when I thought I could finally take it away, my server asked me to put the finishing touch on top.
I was given different flavors of powder including matcha, raspberry, cherry blossom, purple sweet potato and more to create my own toppings.
Check this out (after a few sprinkles of powder)!!!
Ready to be served at last.....
This came with a ton of ingredients such as matcha soft serve, chestnut, mochi, corn flakes, fresh cream, red bean paste and matcha jelly all fit into a very small package. Not bad.
