Candeo Hotels Osaka Shinsaibashi (Osaka, JAPAN)

I was going to explore the new hotels in Umeda for this trip but not long into my research exercise, I was asked to circle back to the hotels in Shinsaibashi. That was obviously Rule#1.

So, I ran on an extensive search of the new hotel openings in the area close to Shinsaibashi (including Namba) but none looked attractive enough for me to pull the trigger. There were a few intriguing ones including Candeo Hotels Osaka Shinsaibashi and Mercure Tokyu Stay Osaka Namba but if location was the primary concern, then no one would argue that the former fit the bill perfectly.

Situated on the busiest street in the shopping district of Shinsaibashi, Candeo Hotels Osaka Shinsaibashi is just a stone’s throw from most of the luxury brand names such as LV, and touristy Dotonbori is right in its backyard.

Opened in November 2023, the hotel is apparently still in great shape and there are a number of amenities such as its open-air bath (more like a small swimming pool) on the top floor which are very popular for the hotel guests.

Now that we have talked about all the good stuff, here are a few of the things we didn’t like about this hotel. First and foremost, the noise from the streets. Despite staying on the 13th floor (there are only 14 floors here), we could easily hear the noise from the motor vehicles racing through traffic and that’s pretty annoying (luckily it normally stopped around midnight).

We had a late start organizing this trip and only managed to secure two twin rooms for our stay. But for a room of around 25-26 square metres, the designer could have done a better job providing space and comfort to guests (perhaps some space to put our stuff right below the TV or next to the basin?).

The bathroom was OK but the wise guys (our parents) were dissatisfied because there was no designated space to hang their clothes or towels.

A separate toilet next to the bathroom. Pretty standard in Japan.

Our hotel had a pretty decent city view.

Another frustrating part about our stay was the waiting time for elevators. With more than 100+ rooms in house, the two elevators looked a little insufficient for guests, especially considering volume of traffic to access the top-floor open-air bath at night!
