My final BIG meeting before the Christmas break has successfully drawn to a close. Now with just a little over a week before my vacation, I decided to treat myself to a nice meal which was likely my last decent meal in town in 2024. All of a sudden, the picture of Butterfly Patisserie’s new vanilla cake flushed through my mind and without hesitation, I headed towards the direction of Rosewood Hong Kong.
Before I started thinking about my lunch plans, I hopped over to Butterfly Patisserie to check out my beloved vanilla cake, which I caught a glimpse of on the social media last week.
The little gal standing next to me seemed to know exactly what I was thinking, as she was seen repeatedly pointing in the direction of the decadent vanilla cake, a creation dedicated to the Christmas season.
I thought I could enjoy this at the comfort of the Butterfly Room but was told that they only serve afternoon sets at this hour. Holt’s Café was my only option if I wanted to sit down and enjoy a slice of cake from Butterfly Patisserie.
Vanilla Cake ($98) – First up, the sweet stuff.
On top of the light and airy vanilla madeleine cake base and delicate almond and sea salt crunch, was a layer of creamy and delicious vanilla crème anglaise finished off elegantly with a glaze of golden brown salted caramel vanilla. An absolutely beautiful symphony of layered components highlighted by the lovely mix of velvety textures and savory-sweet flavors.
Classic Fish & Chips ($298) – Now that I have got the sweet stuff out of the way, it was time for lunch (and a pretty late one). This was a classic fish and chips with a beer battered cod fish.
Accompanied by some nicely prepared French fries.
The key was the parsley tartare sauce adding some earthy notes to the fish fillet.
I didn’t think I have dined at Holt’s Café before but everything had a first time, right? Interestingly, it was mainly for something not on the café’s own menu. After the meal, I headed out to the promenade for a couple of selfies, before returning to my office to get some work done. The countdown is on….. ⏰ ⏰ ⏰
