Toushiro at Osaka Kizu Market 大衆食堂 当志郎 大阪木津卸売市場 (Osaka, JAPAN) ★★☆☆☆

Madame Taekwondo told us to check out Osaka Kizu Market (木津市場), one of the oldest and most famous wholesale markets in the city known for its vibrant seafood, meat, fruit and vegetables. It's been serving the city's restaurants chefs, and food lovers for over 300 years.

I went online for more on about the restaurants at the market but there wasn’t much available. A few travel blogs did mention about the seafood donburi at Uoichi Shokudo (海鮮丼専門店 木津魚市食堂) but they were already calling it the day (except the few guys in front of the lineup who were lucky enough to make it).

At this point, the kids were starting to get restless since they haven't had much to eat all morning. So, we ended our search by accepting the fact that there wasn't going to be a better option than Toushiro (大衆食堂 当志郎), a canteen-style eatery a few stores to the left of Uoichi Shokudo.

There wasn't a soul inside Toushiro except the owner-chef himself and his sidekick.

Not that these guys cared. They wanted to be fed and they wanted it now!!!!

Most of us decided to go with this tuna donburi rice bowl (1,900 yen). The tuna sashimi, I thought, was pretty nice although it unexpectedly came with some tendons. For the price tag we were paying, there are likely better options around town.

After brunch, we went next door to the wet market to check out the seafood and vegetables. Obviously, the good ones were long gone at this hour.
