Ah Bu 阿不 (Hong Kong, CHINA) ★★☆☆☆

It's been a while since our family had dim sum together. I was looking for something decent in Tsim Sha Tsui since we will be visiting the new IKEA shop in K11 Art Mall this afternoon. Yung's Bistro (鏞鏞.藝嚐館) at K11 Musea was the obvious choice thanks to a pretty nice experience there last time around but I was hoping to try something new (and closer to K11 Art Mall). That urge for a new dining experience led us to Ah Bu (阿不) just a few floors up from IKEA.

Stir-fried rice rolls in supreme soy sauce (頭抽炒蝦米腸) – The rice rolls didn't taste all that fresh and I didn't get much dried shrimps (蝦米) for my part.

Crispy barbecued pork puff (叉燒酥) – This looked pretty tasty but the problem was, we didn't order it!!! The same thing would happen a few more times with other dim sum we didn't order. Just very messy work from the service team here this afternoon.

Stir-fried noodles with seafood in supreme soy sauce (豉油皇海鮮炒麵) – I love having this kind of stir-fried noodles (豉油皇炒麵) specially for its thickness (or thinness).

This came with all sorts of seafood including prawns, scallop and fish which was the good news. The bad? The noodles. Really overcooked and very soggy. I love al dente Chinese-style fried noodles but this ain't one of them.

Abalone puff pastry (原隻鮑魚雞粒酥) – Looks as good as those from a hotel restaurant.

And it tasted like one too. The puff pastry was nicely done with the perfect buttery crispiness and there was the braised abalone which was so tender and full of flavors. The only problem was that we ordered two and it arrived in its lonesome. We did try to voice this out to our server who promised to place a new order for us but that never came.

Steamed jumbo prawn dumplings (原隻鮮大號蝦餃) – The prawns looked really huge from underneath the wrapper.

True to the name of the dish, the prawns were jumbo-sized but it was also because of that, the wrapper had to be a lot thicker than usual to hold it together. A double-edged sword.

Steamed Japanese scallop dumpling with black garlic (黑蒜日本帶子餃) – I thought the black garlic was a little too overpowering for the scallops and the wrapper again a bit thick for me.

Not the dining experience we were all hoping for. There were way too many miscues in a single meal from the service team here today. To rub salt to the wound, the owner (or co-owner) was actually on-hand having a late lunch right next to us so imagine what's going thru her mind when she overheard all these issues. I would be fuming if I was her.
