The pandemic has given rise to many home cooks and tonight at our Chinese New Year's Eve "reunion dinner" (團年飯), they were given a chance to showcase their talent. Leading off the banquet was none other than yours truly, with a simple lobster bisque cooked with lobster heads and coral. I've added a couple of Canadian lobsters for good measures.
Jelloman was next. In fact, she was cooking up a storm in the kitchen. First, with the steamed prawns.
Razor clams with garlic and vermicelli, always a crowd-pleaser.
It was followed up by some gigantic abalone! Very tender and not chewy at all...
Lastly, it was mom's seafood platter with oysters, sea cucumber and fish maw.
Everyone was stuffed so we decided to lay off on the Chinese sweet potato ginger dessert soup (番薯糖水). We quickly wrapped up the 3-hour feast because in less than 10 hours, we will be meeting again to celebrate New Year.....
