Cali-Mex Bar & Grill Discovery Bay (Hong Kong, CHINA) ★★★☆☆

We have a double header coming up later this afternoon. First, we will be building some sand castles at Discovery Bay's Sam Pak Wan Beach (三白灣) and then, we will head to Sunny Bay for a walking tour of Yam O (陰澳) and Luk Keng Bay (鹿頸灣). But before we get started, it was time to fill up our tanks at Star Mart Discovery Bay (愉景灣北商場) first.

It was just my second visit to Discovery Bay and first to its northern side. Not surprisingly, it wasn't nearly as crowded as Discovery Bay Plaza; yet there were enough restaurants and bars to keep us happy.

Lunch at Cali-Mex Bar and Grill started off with some homemade nachos. Haven't had these for years!

A vanilla shake to cool things off. I thought this was a little light and foamy. I love thicker shakes like the ones from Triple Os or Five Guys.

Baked Lobster Tail - The lobster tail was grilled with spinach, cream and parmesan cheese. I thought there was some diced mango on top to go with the parmesan cheese too. Not bad.

Chicken wings - Had the choice between buffalo, smoky barbecue and cajun, and we gladly took the smoky BBQ sauce. The wings certainly weren't bad but the sauce was a little too gluey for my liking.

Chicken Quesadillas - Finally, something more authentically Mexican. We had a choice of
beef, chicken, pork, fish or shrimp and much to little nugget's delight, we ordered the one with fillings of grilled chicken. This was really nice. Soft and fluffy with lots of cheese in the middle. Felt like we were having pizza.

Beer battered fish and chips - Always a crowd pleaser. The deep-fried fish fillets were borderline OK but the fries rocked! Very tasty as they have just come out of the fryer.

Of course, the objective of our trip to Discovery Bay wasn't Mexican food. It was a chance for little one and his friends to soak up the sun!

Time to start building those castles together!

You want some help, son?

As usual, everyone gave up on it before the base of a sand castle was ever built.

Next up, we returned to Sunny Bay for the second half of the doubleheader - Yam O (陰澳) and Luk Keng Bay (鹿頸灣). Honestly, I've never been there my whole life so I'm letting little nugget lead the way on this one...
