Hawksmoor Guildhall (London, UNITED KINGDOM) ★★★★☆

After a very delightful brunch at Duck and Waffle yesterday, everyone wanted something similarly good for breakfast this morning. I have already made the plans before the trip to visit Hawksmoor Guildhall for breakfast so this worked out perfectly for all parties concerned.

Hawksmoor is a British institution when it comes to steak and seafood but there's more to their repertoire. They serve one of London's best fry-up breakfast. In fact, it's something of a London legend and it's only available from Monday to Friday.

This premise at Guildhall has a very decorated history behind it and I had a quick tour of it before breakfast started. First, the cocktail bar.

The dining hall, heavy with wooden panels, is very spacious and can easily accommodate a couple hundred meat-loving diners at the same time.

Cornflake Milkshake (£5.75) - Intensely creamy with very subtle flavors from the cornflakes. A very nice way to kick off our breakfast.

I ordered one to share with my little nugget but he ended up having the entire glass all by himself!

Smoked salmon with scrambled eggs (£12.00) - Mom went with the safe bet by ordering the smoked salmon with scrambled eggs and sourdough toast. The smoked salmon was a little heavy-handed with seasoning but otherwise not a bad choice.

Bacon Chop, fried eggs and hash browns (£18.25) - Jelloman shared the large bacon chop, fried eggs and hash brown with little nugget who promptly washed them down with his cornflake shake.

Short-rib bubble and squeak, fried eggs and HP gravy (£10.00) - One of the reasons I came here was for their lobster benedict (£18.00) but I got the bad news early once we got seated. The lobsters didn't arrive due to "poor weather conditions". So, I wound up getting something simple.

Hidden underneath the fried eggs was the Bubble and squeak, a traditional British breakfast dish made primarily with potatoes and cabbage.

It tasted pretty darn good with the crispy short-rib and egg yolk (the gravy a little too thick and salty for me though).

We ended up spending over an hour enjoying this breakfast but it's all worth it. Next up for us will be Tower of London and Tower Bridge. Judging by the time on the clock, we probably need to cut some of our afternoon activities short; otherwise we won't finish before sunset which is fairly early in London during the winter months.

P.S. Earlier in 2019, there were whispers about Hawksmoor opening their first overseas branch in Hong Kong but it never materialized (instead they picked New York). Hopefully, they will re-visit that idea again in 2020.
