AC Hotel by Marriott Burgos (Burgos, SPAIN)

It's Chinese New Year day and after a long long lunch at Azurmendi in Larrabetzu, which currently sits at No.14 on the World's Best 50 Restaurant list, it was time to hit the road again. Our next destination is Burgos, a small Spanish town famous for its medieval steps from AC Hotel by Marriott. It's where we were staying tonight.

After a bit of an adventure in the underground parking lot (more on that later), we finally made it to the hotel lobby.

Check-in was relatively efficient and by the time they scanned all our passports, we were ready to check out our rooms.

To be honest, the rooms looked more boring and outdated than what were shown in the photos on the hotel's website but I wasn't expecting much anyways. After all, our stay here would be very brief. Plus, it's been a long day so all I wanted was to crash early (while skipping dinner).

There was enough space around here to put our luggage, bags and gadgets.

I got this bed all to myself tonight since I have prepaid for an extra room. Yeah, the designated driver needed much better sleeping quality.

The bathroom looked "normal" to me as well. Nothing fancy and very down to earth.

Again enough space to wiggle around.

I was awaken a few times by noises on the street but for the most part, I had a good night of sleep.

Should have asked for a room not facing the main road. This leads to Paseo del Espolón (埃斯波隆步道), a popular tree-lined and landscaped promenade in the heart of Burgos.

Time to go out and explore Burgos!

But first, we need to fill our tank. Breakfast wasn't included which helped to explain why the breakfast hall was empty.

Some charcuterie, bread, muffin, milk and cereal.....

More bread (even some warm croissants), salad and yes some poached and soft-boiled eggs!

That's a pretty good start to my morning. The croissant felt like it's just come out of the oven. The bacon wasn't bad too, Iberico pork!?

Some milk, corn flakes and dried fruits in Round Two.

I thought what truly stands from our stay was the incredible service from the team at AC Hotel Burgos. In fact, we made some new friends from our small incident in the underground parking. What can I say, a friend in need is a friend indeed right?

Back to the hotel itself for a moment here, I imagine it must be a big deal when this nicely designed 4-star hotel opened its doors back in 2010. The location seems to be perfect, just a stone's throw from Burgo's Old Town centre. But it's been a decade and the rooms looked like they could use a facelift. Having said that, for the price they were charging us, it's a pretty fair deal. I certainly won't mind staying here again if we ever visit Burgos in the future.
