I promise Jelloman I would bring her to a couple of nice coffee shops on this trip. The first was a tricky one to locate as it was at the back of Qian Wang Temple (錢王祠), now a paid museum near the shore of West Lake. After paying the admission fee, we finally got into the temple which was first built in the Tang dynasty (唐朝).
Following the maze-like passage, we were finally able to locate Gu Gong Youxi (顧宫有喜) at the back of the temple.
They are still keeping some of these decor from more than 1,000 years ago intact.
There's both indoor and outdoor seating available but we elected to stay indoor.
花開富桂 樱花 (¥128) – This was just too gorgeous to drink. The set came with a little handmade mirror as a souvenir as well.
The coffee shop boasts an impressive coffee menu, but their 'milk' series truly caught our eyes with its stunning presentation. This particular drink served in a traditional Chinese tea cup was primarily made with hot milk, chocolate ganache and flower petals. The preparation took some time, but the result was absolutely worth the wait.
The key to drink it was to first start away from the "tree" and "flower".
Now, our second drink was also ready so it was time to take a few photos of them together.
搖錢樹 (¥88) – More or less the same thing but without the flower petals.
This guy obviously wasn't impressed. 😏😏
The cafe was surprisingly huge, sprawling across the back of the spacious temple grounds. It's not hard to find a quiet corner to relax with a book while enjoying a nice cup of coffee."
Gu Gong Youxi has another location at Manao Temple (瑪瑙寺) that they boasts a nice view of West Lake. Too bad that part of the lake was not part of our itinerary.
