We had a very early start crossing the border at Futian this morning and after making the transit via Shenzhen Metro, we finally arrived at Liantang Checkpoint (莲塘口岸).
Next thing, we met up with another family and a morning session of ping pong. It was little nugget's first-ever table tennis training north of the border and of course, some butterflies in the stomach for him.

An hour and a half of training just breezed by so quickly and it was time for lunch. We decided to get our ride to AVIC City Junshang Shopping Centre (中航城君尚購物中心) near Huaqiang North Station (華強北站). There were quite a few restaurants at the mall, but not many without a lineup. Since we weren’t too picky this afternoon, we ended up getting a table at a Shunde cuisine restaurant called "Under the Big Banyan Tree" (大榕樹下).
Crispy deep-fried milk curd (大良脆鮮奶) (6pc) (¥30) – We all got a piece of this and it was a pretty nice one. The runny milk curd inside was perfectly matched by the crispy pastry on the outside. Won't mind having a few more of these.
Shunde-style crispy tofu (順德脆皮豆腐) (¥29) – Not bad but a bit heavy-handed with the seasoning for me.
Traditional sweet and sour pork (古法菠蘿咕嚕肉) (¥42) – The batter was more chewy than crispy. One dish I could've done without this afternoon.
Shunde-style mixed chicken (順德撈雞) (¥72) – This reminded me a little of "Lo Hei", Singapore's favorite Chinese New Year dish but instead of the raw fish, we have chicken which has been slightly marinated. OK.
Clay pot rice with Chinese sausage (老廣臘味煲仔飯) (¥39) – The clay pot rice was pretty yummy and better yet, it came with a ton of Chinese sausages. And I'm a sucker for Chinese preserved meat!
There were a few other dishes that I failed to take a photo of before the kids cleaned them all up. One of those dishes was the braised tofu with seafood in abalone sauce (鮑汁海皇豆腐) which I thought was the best dish of the afternoon.
After our Shunde lunch, we spent nearly three hours at the arcade centre which was just a floor up from our lunch venue. Little nugget was having quite an afternoon with the crawl machines and he did his damages early too.
