Even after I gave my final nod for Atour S Hotel Ningbo Heyi Avenue (宁波和义大道亚朵S酒店) as our accommodation in Ningbo (寧波), I couldn't help but feel a little nervous. An unheralded boutique hotel run by a local Chinese chain, with virtually no online traveler reviews. I was feeling the heat — what if my team didn’t like it?
And finally, the night has come.
We stepped out of Lishe International Airport (宁波栎社国际机场) around 10:30pm and just like we have drawn it up, our driver got us to the hotel in less than 30 minutes thanks to the light nighttime traffic.
The hotel lobby made a nice first impression with its spacious layout and clean, sleek design.
Check-in was smooth and efficient, and it wasn’t long before we got the keys to our junior suite. Yeah, I splurged on a one-bedroom suite knowing that we could use a little more space around. That turned out to be money well-spent.
The bedroom itself was pretty spacious. There was enough room next to the king-sized bed for little one to wiggle around. Not that he was really running around at this late hour.
Here’s a shot of the room from another angle. We were all raving about its contemporary design and how some of these could be incorporated into our home.
The bathroom gave us more to cheer about.
The shower room was light flooded and meticulously designed. I hate the ones with dark color tones and worse yet, with very low ceiling as if the sky was falling upon me!
We have the toilet room next door. They didn’t use the sliding door design which was a clever move. I have absolutely no interest seeing someone going to work there!
Not surprising, everyone was exhausted and quickly fell into deep sleep within seconds. Fast forward to the next morning, we finally got the chance to check out the city view from the window. It was right on top of Tianyi Square (天一廣場), Ningbo’s most popular landmark in the city centre.
One part of our suite we didn’t get to use much was the living room area. It ended up being our “storage area”. (There was a separate toilet near the entrance of the room which we didn’t get to use much. It would have been nice if there’s shower facility there as well).
There was a projector hanging from the ceiling serving as an additional TV. That was pretty slick. I think more hotels should adopt this concept.
When I first picked Atour S Hotel Ningbo Heyi Avenue, it was primarily for its central location, with major attractions like Heyi Avenue (和义大道), Tianyi Square, and The Old Bund (老外滩) all within walking distance. However, the boutique hotel turned out to be much more than I expected. Its design beautifully combines simple elegance with modern touches, creating a welcoming atmosphere. The thoughtful décor and attention to detail enhance the overall experience, making it more than just a place to stay. It truly feels like a home away from home.
