We got the chance to take a slow stroll around two of Hangzhou's most charming old pedestrian streets before and after dinner tonight, Hefang Street (河坊街) and Nansongyu Street (or Southern Song Imperial Street, 南宋御街). This is a bustling area of the city where you find restaurants, cafes and boutiques on both sides of the street.
This was where little nugget found his late-night snack for tonight – CHIOOO Donut Shop 甜甜圈专营店.
Surprisingly, they have a small selection of pastries on display too. Not that I was interested or anything.
A lot of these doughnuts (around 18-22 RMB) were already sold out at this hour.
Raspberry layered O-ring (¥28) – Knowing my son, he's going to get the most expensive donut and that's what he was getting. A doughnut with raspberry chocolate glaze. He said it was nice and pillowy the way he wanted it. I will take his words for it.
Going back to Hefang Street and Nansongyu Street, I just thought the energy there was simply amazing. The vibrant atmosphere, rich cultural heritage, and deep historical roots make them iconic symbols of ancient Hangzhou. I am really grateful for this incredible experience.
We took a slow walk towards the end of the pedestrianized area and there it was, the Drum Tower (鼓楼) of Hangzhou.
