Since there's going to be very limited dining options at the Uminonakamichi Seaside Park (if any), I decided to first bring the family out to The Luigans Spa and Resort for a teppanyaki lunch.
The Luigans Spa and Resort is just a short 5-minute walk from the train station and we didn't have to look very far to locate Medium Rare, their teppanyaki steakhouse on the far end of the ground floor.
We arrived well ahead of schedule at 11:30am and obviously, the restaurant has just opened for business (as the chefs were still busy doing their preparation).
After placing our orders, our chef (a very pretty lady) came over to show us all the ingredients before she started turning up the heat.
First up, a little salad with garden green, cherry tomatoes that was finished off with a Japanese mustard sauce and bonito flakes.
We were all set and ready to go!
Our first teppanyaki dish was seared foie gras "sushi" with balsamic sauce. There was also a bit of meat jus in there to tie everything together.
Before we get started, some soy sauce, fresh wasabi and salt to spice up our grilled vegetables and meat.
Fukuoka has always got an excellent reputation as a fruit and vegetable producer. The region is responsible for some of Japan's best tomato and strawberry and even their other vegetables like eggplant tasted a tad sweeter and juicier.
Shiitake mushrooms - Pretty decent.
Onion - Very sweet and very juicy. Don't think I really needed to add any salt or soy to make it more tasty.
Now that we have finished with our vegetables, it's time for the main event - Kuroge beef (黒毛和牛), which is a very special breed of wagyu best known for its sumptuous texture, rich flavor and intense aroma.
I couldn't wait to check these out.
This was a bit on the lean side. It's not as well-marbled as I would like but it was firm and very juicy. I won't say I was totally satisfied (could this be the fact that it's sirloin rather than tenderloin?).
I was expecting either green tea or black sesame ice-cream to wrap up our meal but it was a scoop of refreshing pear sorbet.
Now that we've been here, I could understand why this hotel is often considered a top choice for wedding and special event in Fukuoka. The exterior wasn't really all that eye-catching but the patio and swimming pool at the back was really nice (especially in the summer I think). And I thought overall, service was superb as well.
