Dalloyau Bistro at Entertainment Building (Hong Kong, CHINA) ★★★★☆

I’m in Central to see a specialist today and here’s the exciting part – After visiting him at his clinic, I got to check out one of my favorite restaurants around and there are quite a number of them in Central. After my run of Japanese food in Fukuoka last week, I’d be happy to have some French or Italian dishes by now.

After calling L’Atelier Joel Robuchon, Gradini and Octavium without success, it boiled down to two final choices – Arcane (not really French nor Italian) and Dalloyau Bistro. Since I was already standing at the corner of Pedder Street, I thought it would be just a short walk to Dalloyau and perhaps I could find out if they have tables available first. And turns out they do.

Ever since my first visit to Dalloyau Bistro at Entertainment Building a few months ago, I’ve been itching to come back for more. Their casual French bistro food was very very good from my first experience. I also like the fact that they have added a bit of fine-dining elements into their dishes so you feel like you’re getting your money’s worth.

Things got rolling with a small basket of bread and just when I finished taking photos, my starter was already waiting on deck.

Scallop tartare, tomato gazpacho, olive oil and white asparagus
Sitting elegantly on top of the tomato gazpacho and olive oil was a tower of scallop tartare, wonderfully layered with radish and white asparagus. The only thing that seemed to be missing was perhaps some luxurious, top-notch caviar!? Okay, I’m getting greedy.

This was an excellent dish to start off the meal. Very clean flavors from the tomato gazpacho complementing the sweetness of the scallops and white asparagus brilliantly. There’s also enough acidity from the cold soup to provide the dish with some contrasting flavors. Solid start.

Lobster risotto, whiskey
The creamy risotto which came with tons of lobster meat was seriously tasty.

Love what the fresh chives, crushed pistachio and paprika did to the texture and more importantly, flavor profile. The subtle hint of tandoori was pretty clever too. The only blemish was perhaps the heavy-handedness on whiskey. I didn’t really expect that and honestly, felt a little drunk after the meal (Okay exaggerating a bit but my heart was pounding fast!).

Always got room for dessert and judging from my previous experience with their pear and caramel cake, it definitely calls for an encore. But suddenly, I have another idea so I quickly settled the bill and off to my next destination (The Mandarin Cake Shop for dessert!).

Right before I got my bill, someone that looked awfully familiar stepped into the dining room. It’s JELLOMAN! Well, she didn’t tell me she’s coming for lunch so I wasn’t expecting to see her. Thankfully, I wasn’t having lunch with my mistress so it’s all good.

For the second straight time, I got myself a very nice meal here (Also for the second straight time, I ran into a celebrity sitting next to me here). It's quietly becoming one of my go-to places in Central now.
