We managed to arrive in Bangkok right on schedule despite the global Windows crashes but as always, the local traffic is a nightmare (also finding our driver was a challenge) and by the time we showed up at our hotel, it was already 8pm. Luckily, check-in was efficient and once we dropped off our luggage for a quick refresher, we were ready to head out for supper.
Even without advanced booking, I knew exactly where to go for tonight’s dinner. So, we quickly got on the BTS and two stations later, Siam was within our sight.
We took the exit to Siam Square One and onto the 4th floor we go. Our destination was White Flower Factory (白花樓), whose menu was very similar to the one at Greyhound Cafe, which was often the venue for our first meal when we visited Bangkok.
Even the mille crepe cakes looked so familiar (more on those later).
Cookie and cream milkshake (฿135) – Very frosty and thirst quenching but it was tasting more like a chocolate shake than anything else.
Thai-style deep fried chicken wings (฿175) – Is there anything tastier than these single-bone chicken wing deep fried Thai-style? So good…
Fresh-wrapped steamed noodles (฿175) – A signature dish here that was highly recommended by our server.
The steamed noodles, or kuay tiew lord which have been stuffed with vegetables and minced meat certainly weren’t bad but I didn’t like the homemade sweet soy which seemed to be flavored with something fermented.
Shrimp cake (฿95) – Would love to see a little more minced shrimp or shrimp mousse underneath that crispy crust.
Crab meat omelette (฿225) – My second favorite dish tonight, a close second to the wings. The omelette was so fluffy and it was the perfect match with the jumbo lump crab meat and chilli sauce.
Pad Thai with shrimps, bean curd and vegetables (฿195) – A classic Thai noodle dish for mom and little nugget.
Angel hair with crab meat, garlic, chilli (฿325) – The thin pasta was nicely tossed with garlic and chilli. Somehow, everyone found it to be more numbing than spicy. 🌶️
German pork hock (฿495) – Everybody seemed to be preoccupied with the side dishes including the baked purple potato instead of the pork hock.
Thai milk tea mille crepe cake (฿140) – Next up was our desserts and like Greyhound Cafe, White Flower Factory also has a nice collection of Mille crepe cakes with their Thai milk tea flavor being one of the best sellers. This was particularly nice, after the nice pour of the super-rich Thai milk tea ganache on top.
Pandan coconut mille crepe cake (฿140) – But this was even better! Each layer of paper-thin crepe was complemented with pandan and coconut flesh. Very refreshing and soothing to the palate.
Not a bad start to kick off our first journey in Bangkok since 2019. As it was already getting late (almost 10pm), we settled our bills and decided to try our luck in Siam Paragon to see if there’s still anything that’s open at this late hour.
