We were back at One Avenue (卓悦中心) looking for a dining spot after spending much of the day at Injoy (卓悅匯). Since we have never had western cuisine in Shenzhen before, I thought it was the right time for us to embark on a culinary adventure and check out some non-Chinese food tonight.
The Eating Table came highly recommended on Dianping (大眾點評) but it wasn't the easiest of all places to find in this gigantic shopping complex.
Even before 6pm, the place was already buzzing and there was only one table left unoccupied.
Baked rice with seafood (¥88) – A rice dish very similar to a soupy Spanish paella, or Arroz caldoso and it came with a generous portion of seafood (in fact more seafood than rice) including grilled prawns, cuttlefish and clams. While the broth could have benefited from a touch more flavors, the combination of tomato, garlic, and peppers provided a delightful base for the rice to work with.
Grilled chicken with kale and pesto (¥78) – The chicken was superbly cooked to a nice, juicy texture. It was served with a sauce which I originally thought was chimichurri sauce but ended up tasting more like pesto.
It's been a long long day we spent in just two shopping malls north of the border. Time to head back home.
Our first experience of western cuisine in Shenzhen was a fairly good one. In fact, I already got the green light from management to do another European/French meal when we visit Shenzhen next time.
