Like Tao Tao Ju (陶陶居) and Fan Lou (蘩樓), Dianduda (點都德) also originated from Guangzhou and they have significant presence in Shenzhen, with most of their branches located inside the medium to large sized shopping malls. I consider those three the “Big Three” when it comes to dim sum in Shenzhen. This Dianduda we visited was right on the food hall level of buzzy KKOne (京基濱河時代廣場), although unlike the other two in the Big Three, we had absolutely no trouble finding ourselves a table.
The internal décor of Dianduda is very similar to the one at Fan Lou. The vintage-inspired accents provides an atmosphere that pays homage to the past.
Steamed red rice rolls with crispies and prawns (金莎紅米腸) (¥31) – Like Fan Lou, this is a signature dim sum here. Jelloman thought it was even better than the one at Fan Lou. I agreed that the one at Fan Lou was both crispy and chewy at the same time but I wasn’t sure if this one here was more superior. Personally, I called it a draw.
Steamed shrimp dumpling with chicken stock (雞湯四色蝦餃) (¥35) – The chicken broth tasted the same for the four different colored har gow which surprised me a little. The size, well we are now used to the jumbo-sized har gow from TTJ and Fan Lou so these normal ones tasted a little odd 😝😝.
Crispy dumpling with goose liver (鵝肝金餃) (¥29) – Tasted like a spring roll but in a different shape. Too bad the taste from the goose liver never registered (though I saw small cubes of them).
Steamed manyplies beef tripe with fermented bean curd sauce (腐乳蒸牛百葉) (¥29) – Pretty tender but I thought they could be a little more heavy-handed with the fermented bean curd sauce. In fact, since I began coming to SZ more often three months ago, I started to realize that the seasoning over here was a lot lighter than what we were used to in Hong Kong. And I am starting to like this level of seasoning more. Less sometimes is more.
Crispy milk custard rolls (流心奶香酥脆卷) (¥25) – These were so good! It’s kind of like having double-layered milk (雙皮奶) inside a crispy tube. Reminded me a lot of the deep-fried milk custard in Shunde cuisine too.
Black and white milk foam (太極奶糊) (¥21) – I was expecting black sesame sweet soup mixed with almond tea here but I was wrong (not entirely wrong though). The black one was indeed black sesame sweet soup but the white one tasted more like thickened milk. This was a little weird.
We just finished an hour of body massage so at 2:30pm, it was a very late lunch. But somehow we didn’t find the urge to eat more. That was just flat out weird.
